Barbara Ann Corcoran was born on March 10, 1949. She is an American investor, speaker and consultant. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage that she founded. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran later left the business. One of the show's first "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in the entire 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank to date. As of February 2020, she had signed 53 deals on the show, with the most significant one being $350,000 for 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children from a working-class Irish Catholic family. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mom and also a housekeeper. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was always changing jobs during Corcoran’s life. Her family depended sometimes on the food provided by a friendly local grocer for free food. Corcoran recalls her father as one who sometimes consumed too much alcohol and did her mother a disservice and sneer, especially after he'd consumed alcohol. Corcoran struggled through her schooling before discovering that she was dyslexic. Corcoran attended an area Catholic elementary school before beginning the high school system at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran graduated from Leonia High School with a degree in English after failing several courses during her first year of high school.
