Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United American. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for health care, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
